Cascade Green

Unlike almost every beer on the market, Cascade Green is marketed without a big focus on taste. The brilliance of this beer is its environmental credibility. Every drop of the beer is 100% carbon neutral and all ingredients are sourced locally in Tasmania. In addition the beer contains one third less carbohydrates than the standard full strength beer. This puts it firmly in the low carb category.

WHAT THE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A new entry into the market is Cascade Green, which boasts a full flavoured lager, free of preservatives, all ingredients locally produced, 100% carbon neutral and recycled materials used wherever possible.

Now on the surface I'm all for using local ingredients and recycled material (as long as that means the bottles). I'm OK with being Carbon Neutral too because I want to save the world like everyone else. It's the only one with beer as they say.  I can even agree with not adding preservatives but I personally don't think you'd want to drink enough of Cascade Green to feel sick the next day. If you want to save the environment walk to the pub instead of driving and recycle your bottles instead of drinking Cascade Green.

It seems to me that Cascade have forgotten to include the nice tasting beer molecules (sorry to get technical there) in the brewing process and instead accidentally scattered some Pilsener ones in their place. It has that sort of taste.

There are now two versions of green beer available on the market. One is the traditional St Patrick’s day beer ruined by some filthy artificial food colouring, that is most likely banned in all Western European countries. The second has nothing to do with colour and everything to do with saving the world.

I should mention that as a result of my in depth research, it appears that this is most definitely not a one off marketing attempt to capture the green dollar. The Cascade brewery has been making a genuine effort to reduce its emissions and its environmental impact. Cascade Green is simply a part of the bigger picture.

I think the brewers at Cascade would have trouble producing anything less than good. Cascade Green however appears to have fallen a little short of their usual outstanding offerings. But look at it this way, do Tiger Woods & Roger Federer always produce outstanding results? The answer is no, but they do so more often than their competitors. For me the cascade brewery could be the brewing equivalent of these sporting superstars.

The feel good factor for this beer is enormous. If Cascade can work out a way to 100% offset the next day hangover and tweak the taste a little, then we will have a truly exceptional beer.
