Corona is what I like to refer to as a “girls beer”. So to start this review I thought it would be a good idea to explore what I mean.

I have been drinking beer for a while now and I have not seen a beer that appeals so much to women. Now to explain my theory on why this is the case.

The lemon or lime: Lemon or lime masks the beer taste, it creates a new drink, In reality it is no longer a beer. The label doesn’t change so it still looks and feels like a beer. But if we are going to be serious here, it is not a real beer anymore. This allows its drinkers to mix with real beer drinkers with ease.

It’s a food beer: I have only ever been out fishing on the ocean once. I spent most of the time with my head over the side throwing my guts up. That aside, if you asked me what beer I would like to drink on boat on a hot summer’s day with fresh fish coming straight off the barbie, I would say “get me a Corona”.  If you are eating fish, chicken, salad, pasta or any sort of bread Corona is a logical optional extra.

Gender barriers: All any man wants is a woman that looks like a supermodel and acts like one of his mates. As fate would have it, finding a woman like this is about as easy as sawing your own arm off with with a broken bottle (Possible, but very difficult and very painful).

The more cunning women of the world have realised this and have decided to enhance their chances of finding a partner by doing things that blokes like, e.g. drinking beer and watching footy. Corona is this type of girl’s beer of choice, because it is as close to drinking a vodka cruiser, while still drinking beer as you can get.

With all that said Corona has to get a decent rating because it is in a league of its own. No other beer is seriously selling to the same market segment.

Corona is the thin edge of the wedge as far as Mexican Cerveza's are concerned. It's long been available in Australia but if you look at most grog outlets now a days the number of these sorts of beers you can buy is increasing exponentially (yes its a big word but I looked it up)

Rating it poses a unique challenge. Do you rate the beer straight out of the bottle or do you rate it with the mandatory slice of lemon/lime. Normally I'd say if something needs to be added to a beer to make it taste better/different, then it should be done in the brewing process, for example the new Raddler types of beer now on the market. Corona however has had the lemon/lime slice for so long now, it seems the only way to drink it, so that's the way I'm going.

Question!

Is Corona a beer drinkers beer or is it just a pretender? Is it what frappuccino and soy latte drinkers by day, drink in the evening? If I tried it, would I have to start putting product in my hair and use a moisturiser? Tough questions I know but deserving of answers.

What I think is, that in a world of beers you need to have a bit of a gimmick to get a foothold in the market. Sure the lemon/lime could be seen as a gimmick but Corona  screams out for some citrus. It also crosses over into the female demographic, who tend to like this sort of beer. This may explain the image that Corona has (not a real beer)

I bet a lot of guys drink Corona in the privacy of their own homes. I know I drink Cerveza style beers and the fact that I have a lemon and lime tree out back means they don't go to waste.

In fact I've just now had a Corona and in all seriousness and with all jokes aside............................. am I the only one that thinks this melon coloured shirt really goes well with these chinos?

Aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrr. For god’s sake, can someone get me a Guinness before I get in touch with my inner self?

Anyway if you're after a schooner of beer you won't get a Corona because it's not on tap, and you wouldn't want to drink it by the schooner anyway. If you want to try a fresh tasting beer with a citrus tang go for a Corona.

It is real beer. (Just don't tell me your thoughts and feelings).
