Craig’s tasting

Has anyone ever had a friend who spent 12 months working and living in London? This beer reminds me of the Aussie that got back from their ex-pat experience only to have contracted a bastardised hybrid English/Australian accent.

I am sure you are familiar with these people. If you are looking for more information on this phenomenon i believe Dani Minogue is the president of their club. Her contact details and club details are available at www.wankerishaccent.com.

The beer is very much Australian, but does everything it can to pretend it is a true blue English Bitter. It is, however, a fair replica of what I would consider to be an English Bitter. It does have some similarities with the James Squire Golden Ale, but has more of doughy taste to it.

As the Gage Roads website contains no information on this beer, I have had to resort to getting information from other beer review websites to see what it is all about. I am proud to say that I am the only reviewer who picked up the hybrid accent overtones.

Just another reason why I consider myself Australia’s pre-eminent unqualified beer reviewer.

Danny’s tasting

Does beer drinking get any better than this, I ask you? Sure does!...........easily as it happens.

To look at the stubbie and the name you have no doubt you’re consuming an imported beer from the UK. Or are you? Despite virtually everything British being displayed on the label, on closer examination you see that it is brewed in Western Australia.

Gage Roads has an array of different types of beers and this is their attempt at an English Bitter. I’m not a fan of English Bitters at all and after tasting this I would suggest that Gage has been able to replicate the flavour exactly. Well done Gage!

Beer drinking is almost always about the journey and very rarely about the destination. While I’m not saying this journey is a three hour walking tour of the London Sewerage System in summer whilst wearing thongs, it’s not a stroll through the grounds of the Playboy Mansion at party time either.

Therefore on this occasion I’d have to say that drinking this is definitely more to do with the destination.
