READER FEEDBACK

Hi, I know beer tasting is a highly subjective experience but personally I think you've rated the Boston Lager too low. I drank quite a bit of it when I was in the US and found it was far superior to anything else made there (although that may not be saying much). In my opinion you ranked quite a few less interesting beers ahead of it.  Are you doing blind tastings?

Also you my be interested to know that Sam Adams - aside from being one of the founding fathers of the republic - was himself a brewer.

READER FEEDBACK

Hi there!

Just a note to correct your content on Reschs Beer as I have also been trying with little success to get info.

Firstly, it was(is for the moment) most definitely a Sydney brew, not from Melbourne (Southerners would recoil in horror at it’s bitter taste, Carlton Draught being their one) & due the tied house policy up to the 1970’s was the only available in many hotels particularly in the Eastern Suburbs & St George District. Tooheys had most of the west & country sewn up.

Where I came in contact was working for the AJC in the 1980’s during the change of brewery owners and public tastes, customers were divided. “You’ve only got Reschs! Old blokes beer!” or “Toohey’s! That’s weak!” However that was the management policy at the time and that’s all we had at Randwick & Warwick Farm except for a couple of Tooheys bars to keep the lawyers at bay. Until the change to Fosters.........

Being in charge of the cellars back then I have some photos of the old 18gal lay down & spear kegs if you want.
