Craig’s tasting

Former Sri Lankan Prime Minster, national cricket captain and tea enthusiast  Arjuna Ranatunga was famous for being a little overweight.

I believe it was the former Australian wicket keeper Ian Healy who once made a comment, something along the lines of “You can’t call a runner for being an overweight, unfit, fat........”. I will leave the last word out, but if you are struggling to imagine what it is, the NRL superstar footy player Karmichael Hunt may be able to give you a bit of clue.

Perhaps the secret behind Arjuna’s large frame was that he had already discovered the smooth drinkability of Sinha Lager.

Sinha is a darker lager than you would normally find and without any exaggeration, it is a taste sensation. It mixes a light but noticeable taste with more refreshment than a perfectly cooled Iced Tea.

Knowing what I know now, I would be surprised if Sri Lanka isn’t populated with some of the happiest beer drinkers on the planet. If by chance they are not the happiest, they must certainly be the most refreshed.

My suggestion to all readers is to get out into the beautiful 40 plus summer temperatures we have been experiencing and put some Sinha’s away.  At the very least please make sure you replace your Gatorade with a Sinha next time you take the sporting field. Even if does make you a bit fatter than you would like.

Danny’s tasting

The first thing that springs to mind when I think of Sri Lanka is........................No, wait a moment Sri Lanka is famous for………………………What I meant to say is that you can’t help but think of Sri Lanka without acknowledging it’s……………………….oh buggered if I know. Wait a moment it’s tea isn’t it (and sometimes a cricket team).

Well rejoice all you Sri Lankanites because you now have Sinha lager, a quality beer you can export to the world, and if you can’t measure your place in humanity on the back of the quality of your beer exports then what the hell's the point I ask you.

Sinha, not to be confused with Singha Lager of Thailand is the reason we got into beer reviews in the first place, a chance to uncover an unknown gem and at the same time validate a perpetual state of inebriation.

Sinha is that gem. It has a taste we had a hard time trying to describe except that it was something out of the ordinary. Sad that this is as descriptive as we can get.

Luckily we had the chance to try Tiger, Sinha and Singha in the same session and I had it in a close second to Tiger (much like Phil Mickelson but I digress) and ahead of Singha.

I plan to try this again and so too should you. Keep your eye out for it as I've only seen it the once. Ah, the goodness of beer in the convenience of a bottle. Innovative.
