Hofbrau Dunkel

One of the finer product of the Hofbrau brewery in Munich. A hearty 5.5% alcohol content and the more interesting flavours that come with a darker beer make this one of the more intriguing beers from the Hofbrau Haus

Origin: Munich, Germany

Craig’s tasting

Here we have a beer that falls short of a top tier smoko rating by very little. I believe it is roasted barley that gives this beer its dark colour. Don’t get confused with your regular dark beers or stouts because it certainly is not the same.

Most people wouldn’t go near this beer just because of its look, but I am here to convince these uncultured individuals to drop their usual beers and give it a fair go.

Why go dark? The darkness in this beer opens up a whole other world of taste. Its like taking a Carlton Draught and slightly roasting it

Why are these not more popular? I really don’t know why these are not made in Australia. This type of beer exists somewhere between the world of a hard ass stout and a regular Aussie tap beer.

My final word: Get some and get converted. This is the tanned Brazilian hottie of the beer world.

Danny’s tasting

Now we're talking. The best is saved to last. Again from Bavaria this lager has a darkness in colour close to but not as black as a Tooheys Old.

It had a distinctive taste that I couldn't quite put my finger on and I'd be doing it an injustice by attempting to do so. Suffice to say you could do much worse than to sample this beer.
