Hofbrau Hefe Weizen

On the Hofbrau Braueri website, Hofbrau claim that they had the sole licence to brew wheat beer in Bavaria for over 200 years and as the name would suggest this is a real wheat beer. A top fermented wheat beer to be more precise. It is described as deliciously yeasty which would not be everyones first choice of words.

Danny’s tasting

Another Bavarian product this, Wheat Beer has the typical cloudy appearance (Hefe being the addition of yeast to produce a cloudy appearance, think Coopers Pale Ale).

I had great expectations for this prior to tasting, as Wheat Beers are a favourite of mine. You get the yeast taste and it is somewhat similar to the aforementioned Coopers Pale Ale though not a crisp one, however after a half a glass there was a distinct after taste that the closest I could compare it to is the flavour of cloves. An odd choice from the brewery.

This could turn some away from the beer which might be a shame because I believe it does have something to offer.

Compared to the Spaten this is clearly better.

Craig’s tasting

The beer is cloudy in appearance. If you have ever experienced a Coopers Pale Ale you will know what I am talking about. My counterpart picked up a distinct clove aroma. To me it was more like hot dogs..... very faint but it was there.

What did I like about it? Like a lot of cloudy beers it was good, very easy to drink and I wanted more

Why do I like hot dogs? Hot dogs are full of that great tasting grissly goodness.

Would I drink more than one of these? Yep, it was good from the start and kept getting better. Its a session beer and an after work relaxer all in one.

My final word: I really rate this beer well on a lot of levels, it has got everything going for it. It is crisp, fresh and easy drinking. Only beers that I will compulsively reach for again and again will score over 7.5 and this is bang on the money. Anything from the hofbrau haus has to be good. Doesn’t it?
