Craig’s tasting

It was the first beer of the tasting session and I came at it with big expectations. I had never seen it on tap before. Let alone tasted it. First taste made me think I was drinking a Pilsener, it had that same aroma and that same after taste that I hate Pilsener for.

Could I drink more than a few? Yep but I wouldn’t go out of my way to look for it

Would I drink it before or after another beer? I reckon it would get better the more you had but I certainly would not switch to it after drinking another beer. It is a starter and a stayer.

Would I buy it for someone else? Yes and I would tell them it is a premium foreign beer that Germans love. Wether or not this is true is a different story.

My final word: This beer was never going to go into my all time lists of favourites. It is however crisp and clean so I certainly couldn’t hate it. I have given it an appreciative 6.

Danny’s tasting

Spaten is first cab off the rank in todays review.

This Munich Brewery product hails from Bavaria and at 5.2% is quite a standard alcohol content for the region.

At first try it seems quite acceptable however initial impressions can be somewhat misleading. It has acceptable Aroma, clarity and head retention but lacks crispness and even with a slight hoppy taste you soon realise it has a blandness all of it's own.

Unless you've just mowed the lawn in 40 degree temperature you are not likely to enjoy this in great quantity, but it may appeal to some. Your money could be best spent elsewhere.
